Sunday night and socks
I had such a productive weekend! For one thing, I Christmas-shopped. As usual, I set out full of holiday cheer and motivation to find the perfect gift for everyone. But malls are miserable, miserable places. Gaudy decorations, really horrendous versions of perfectly good carols, and the ever-present "Mom, I want this!" chorus. I did manage to find a few things - necktie for my brother, chess strategy book for my cousin, and Great Big Sea CD to go with the concert tickets I got for my parents. Which takes care of about half my list. The other half I will be ordering online. You couldn't pay me to go back to that mall until well after the holidays.
I actually managed to get myself out of bed in time to go to the gym this morning. Getting to the weights class by 10:30am on a Sunday can be hard. Luckily I have Bagheera the feline alarm clock. Normally he wakes me up with a few loud meows and his fish breath. This morning he added a plastic milk carton ring, dropped neatly in the palm of my hand. He's obsessed with these - he's the only cat I know of who likes the ring from the carton more than the milk itself. He fetches them tirelessly, and I had to hide it last night so I could go to sleep. But at 7:30 this morning he found it, put it right in my hand, and squalled until I woke up and threw it for him. Not the greatest of timing - if he'd have waited until 9:45 or so I would've been happier. But I take what I can get.

Finished several things this weekend - I finally dug through the tangle that is my knitting drawer and pulled out the small things I'd been meaning to finish. My first Jaywalker sock, for instance. I adore it - the fit is perfect, and I love how the colors look with the pattern. Mostly, anyway. Severe pooling going on in the leg, but it doesn't look too bad. At least the foot striped well.

I also finished a plain old stockinette sock that I'd put aside for ages. It was technically done a few months ago, but as soon as I sewed up the toe I realized I'd misplaced the toe decreases. I hate (really hate) frogging anything, so I put it away and forgot about it. Today I actually put in a lifeline, ripped it back, and did it right. I also put the mitten cap on that first fingerless mitten - it came out really nicely. Sadly, my camera battery ran out after the sock session, so I'll wait until both are done to photograph those.
The only catch to finishing all of this is that I didn't really finish. I still have one more of everything to make before I can really call them finished. Which is too bad, because I can't wait to wear these socks. I could cast on for another mitten or Jaywalker tonight, but I'm a little burned out on DPN knitting for the time being. Tonight's gonna be a Mermaid night.
